JM Famous Wynn races to speedy win in $80,000 Lou Wooten and Sydney Valentini Stakes
JM Famous Wynn earned her first career stakes win Saturday, breaking quickly and never being headed on her way to victory in the the 25th running of the $80,000 Lou Wooten and Sydney Valentini Stakes, a restricted Grade 2 event at Sunland Park Racetrack and Casino for older New Mexico-bred quarter horses.
Trained by Tony Sedillo for owner Carlos Soto Carrasco, JM Famous Wynn broke alertly from his inside post and quickly established her place on the lead under jockey Luis Martinez. The 4-year-old mare by Jm Specialwynn was never seriously threatened, winning by a lengths and stopping the clock in 19.38 seconds for the 400 yards, earning an Equibase Speed Index of 92.
Bred in New Mexico by Ventura M Ranch LLC, JM Famous Wynn picked up her second consecutive win and fourth from 11 lifetime starts. She was an allowance winner in her most recent start on Nov. 2 at Zia Park. In her only other stakes start, JM Famous Wynn finished last in the New Mexico State Fair Quarter Horse Futurity at Albuquerque Downs in 2024. Her victory in the Wooten and Valentini increases her career earnings to more than $147,000.
For Sedillo, the win by JM Famous Wynn is his second stakes winner of the current meet. Sedillo saddled Boot Scoots to victory in the Red or Green Stakes here on Jan. 10.
Sent off at odds of 8.70-to-1, JM Famous Wynn paid $19.40 to her winning backers. The $2 exacta with Flashtoglory returned $57.60. Big Daddy Farr was third with Jess Paid rounding out the top four finishers.
A total of four stakes races worth $305,000 in purse money headline a strong nine-race card of live racing Sunday at Sunland Park Racetrack and Casino. The $100,000 Riley Allison Derby headlines the program, with the $75,000 Ft Bliss Stakes, as well as the $65,000 Borderplex Stakes and $65,000 Bold Ego Stakes on tap. First post time is set for 12:25 p.m.
