I Think I’m Here rolls in $90,000 Albert and Henry Dominguez Memorial Stakes

I Think I’m Here rolled in the stretch under leading rider Alfredo Juarez, Jr. to a convincing score in the 20th running of the $90,000 Albert and Henry Dominguez Memorial Stakes on Friday at Sunland Park Racetrack and Casino.

Under blustery conditions, the New Mexico-bred son of Marking took the lead exiting the first turn of the 1 1/16 mile affair. He raced through an intense headwind through an opening half mile timed in 49.8 seconds before getting loose on the lead around the far turn.

The Lillian Silva trainee drew off at the head of the lane and coasted home to win by more than two lengths, crossing the finish line in a time of 1 minute, 46.24 seconds.

Owned by Charles Dunleavy III, Friday’s win is the latest stakes win for I Think I’m Here. He was a romping winner last November in the $200,000 Rocky Gulch New Mexico Classic Stakes last November at Zia Park. He also has a stakes win at Sunland Park, having scored in the 2023 New Mexico State University Handicap. Friday’s win marks the seventh win from 22 career starts and pads his lifetime bankroll to more than $450,000.

Sent off as the overwhelming 1-to-9 favorite at post time, I Think I’m Here returned $2.10 to his winning backers. Luck In My Eyes finished second under jockey Jose Vazquez, prompting a $2 exacta payoff of $15.60. Jet Set Warrior finished third with Bodie Got Gold rounding out the top four finishers.

The field for the Albert and Henry Dominguez Memorial Handicap was reduced to only five runners after scratches were announced earlier in the day to both morning line favorite Let Him Be as well as Warrior’s Mark.

Live racing at Sunland Park Racetrack and Casino resumes Saturday with a 10-race program which will get underway at 12:25 P.M.
