Sunland Park raises purses 25 percent
Starting Friday, March 4, a 25 percent purse increase will go into effect for all overnight races at Sunland Park Racetrack and Casino.
Business has been brisk on the races through the first 32 days of the 55 day meet which concludes on Sunday, April 3. The purse increase
should mean an additional $50,000 per day in purses.
The positive development arrives just in time for one of Sunland Park’s biggest days this Sunday, February 27. A blockbuster 4-stakes card
Is planned around the $100,000 Mine That Bird Derby, $100,000 Red Hedeman Mile, $100,000 Albert and Henry Dominguez Memorial Handicap and the $75,000 Island Fashion Stakes.
The Mine That Bird Derby is final local prep for the $500,000 Sunland Derby (Gr. III). Sunland Park’s biggest day happens on Sunday, March 27.
The winner of the Sunland Derby (Gr. III) earns 50 qualifying points to the Kentucky Derby.
Sunland Park will also begin carding 10 races starting next Saturday and Sunday.
Post Time each day is 12:25 p.m.
