Chary Ride wins $100,000 Enchantress Stakes through disqualification

30-1 outsider Chary Ride won the $100,000 Enchantress Stakes through disqualification on Sunday at Sunland Park Racetrack and Casino.

Under jockey Jimmy Coates, Chary Ride closed with much momentum in deep stretch of the one mile feature for New Mexico-bred 3-year-old fillies.

Shug’s Charlie came across and impeded the progress of Charry Ride just before the finish. Shug’s Charlie was disqualified by the stewards and placed second behind Charry Ride following a Stewards’ Inquiry.

Chary Ride picked a lucrative time to break her maiden and collected the $60,000 winner’s prize for owners Gallegos Del Norte Racing and Nate Roybal. Jose R. Gonzalez, Jr. was the winning trainer. The three-year-old daughter of Executive Passion was making her 9th career start. She paid $63.40 on a $2 win ticket.

Shug’s Charlie ran a bold race under jockey Luis Negron and was the unofficial winner. She bore out into the path of Charry Ride. The 17-1 long shot opened up a lead in upper stretch.

La Senora Stakes winner Two Stepper found an opening in mid-stretch and closed for third place. Multiple stakes winner Count Them Again was used up battling for the early lead and finished off the board.

Live racing resumes on Tuesday at 1 p.m.
