Races 5 through 9 are Breeders’ Cup races, and the 9th race is the $2 million Breeders’ Cup Juvenile (Gr. 1) starring Game Winner. The unbeaten Bob Baffert trained charge is the 8-5 favorite and will be ridden by Joel Rosario.
Advance wagering for Saturday’s $30 million Breeders’ Cup races will be available on Friday.
Saturday’s first post time from Churchill Downs is 8:45 a.m. There will be a 12-race card powered by 9 Breeders’ Cup races. The first is the $1 million Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Sprint (3rd race) starting at 10 a.m.
Kentucky Oaks winner Monomoy Girl and Cotillion Stakes winner Midnight Bisou collide in the $2 million Longines Breeders’ Cup Distaff (Gr. 1) in the 9th race. The two arch rival fillies are listed at 2-1 and 6-1 odds, respectively. Last year’s Distaff runner-up Abel Tasman is a 7-2 morning line choice.
Two-time Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe winner Enable has been installed the even money favorite for the $4 million Longines Breeders’ Turf (Gr. I) at one and one-half miles. The $8.5 million earner will try to become the first horse to win the Arc and Breeders’ Cup Turf in the same year. Defending Breeders’ Cup Turf champion Talismanic is also running in the 10th race.
Accelerate is the 5-2 morning line favorite in the $6 million Breeders’ Cup Classic (Gr. I) (11th race) going one and one quarter miles. The Lookin At Lucky stallion has drawn the outside #14 post position with jockey Joel Rosario. Accelerate is coming off a huge year with 5 wins from 6 starts including triumphs in the Pacific Classic at Del Mar and the Santa Anita Handicap. Long time New Mexico horseman Mike Abraham bred Accelerate.
Dubai World Cup winner Thunder Snow and Travers Stakes winner Catholic Boy are also among the leading contenders in the 14-horse field. Trainer Bob Baffert sends out a solid pair in West Coast and McKenzie. Baffert has won three of the four past Breeders’ Cup Classics.
Full fields and betting opportunities are abundant on Friday and Saturday.
