Ryansmanonthemoon doubles up in $85,000 NMHBA Quarter Stakes

2019 Shue Fly Stakes winner Ryansmanonthemoon scored his second lucrative stakes win of the meet with a big run in the $85,000 NMHBA Quarter Horse Stakes at Sunland Park Racetrack and Casino on Saturday.

Fresh off a win in the $211,000 Shue Fly Stakes on January 26, Ryansmanonthemoon generated another fast closing win over Cd Mamas Boy. The result was the same finish as in the Shue Fly. Ryansmanonthemoon won by a neck with a strong rally as the 7-5 favorite in the 400 yard race. Trained by Cynthia Gonzalez, the three-year-old New Mexico-bred son of First Moonflash has blossomed into a terrific horse at Sunland Park and has won 2 stakes in 3 starts. Mauro Salcedo piloted the fast winner in a time of 18.942 seconds, good for a 106 speed index.

Ryansmanonthemoon becomes the first two-time stakes winner of the young meet.

The talented gelding closed from third place to get the victory for owners Jimmy Negrete and Jimmy Vasquez. His fourth career win was worth $51,000, pushing a bankroll to nearly $194,000.

The Shue Fly runner-up Cd Mamas Boy took a bold early lead and had the look of a winner on Saturday. The 5-2 second favorite tried his best but could not maintain his speed in deep stretch and just held for second, a head in front of Cd Flash and Fame. The runner-up earned $17,000 for owner Daniel Ramirez. He completed a popular $2 exacta worth 15.80.

Live racing resumes on Sunday at 12:50 p.m. The featured 8th race is the 17th running of the $85,000 La Coneja Stakes at 6 furlongs. Top flight New Mexico-bred females will run. Tijuana, Fast Gator and African Heat are among the fast ones.
